Our vision

Ecriture Musique is a group of songwriters based in France and Belgium seeking to write hymns and contemporary songs in French that are deeply rooted in biblical truth and singable for congregations.

Our conviction is that God has given congregational singing as a means of grace which transforms the church as the Word of Christ dwells in us richly, as we teach and admonish one another and as we sing his praises (Colossians 3:16).

While the English-speaking church has a rich heritage of timeless hymns and has also experienced a revival in modern hymn writing in recent years, the French-speaking church has a smaller repertoire and very few modern hymn writers who share this vision. We’re very grateful that some classic and modern hymns have been translated, though we also believe songs written directly in French communicate powerfully to native speakers. This is what led us to begin writing together.

What we do

Our primary aim is to compose, record and publish modern hymns and contemporary songs. We released our first full-length album Ecriture in 2020. Our second album, Contemplez Christ, was released in June 2023 and contains 13 new songs focusing on the person and work of Christ.

Although we are a group of songwriters rather than a band, we are often called upon to lead music at various gatherings and conferences, and we do this as much as possible alongside our other ministries, as a service to the French-speaking church and in order to share our songs more widely.

We also aim to equip churches by promoting a biblical understanding of congregational singing and by providing training and resources at one-off events.

We are convinced of the need to dedicate time and resources to this ministry. However, with the transition towards digital music in recent years, it is not possible to fund ministries like ours with the proceeds of CD sales. The French-speaking church is also relatively small in global terms and generally lacking in funds for this kind of project. We are currently looking to fund three main areas:

1. Production costs: Simple but good quality recordings and videos are the best way to promote songs and to help local churches get singing. We currently rely almost entirely on donations to be able to produce albums and create content. Moving forwards, both regular donations and one-off gifts would be of great help in enabling us to put in place a longer term vision for the production of new songs.

2. Staff: One member of our team has recently begun working as full-time coordinator of Écriture. This is partially covered by donations, but we are looking for further donors. We are also hoping to include another part-time team member.

3. General running costs: These include equipment, website and travel.

If you would like to make a one-off donation towards our ministry, click the button below or contact us here if you would like to find out how you can partner with us on a regular basis.

We also have an account with donor-advised fund “Trustbridge Global”, which allows donors in Switzerland, the UK, Canada, the US, Australia, New Zealand, Germany and the Netherlands to receive tax benefits for their gifts. Simply click on the button to give via Trustbridge.
